1) The Christmas trees were lit with real candles and a water was kept alongside in containers for emergencies.
2) The workers of the construction sites started the tradition of displaying the Christmas tree on Rockefeller Center in New York City. The first tree displayed was a simple one which was not decorated in 1930.

6) The Christmas Greeting cards were started by John Calcot Horsley in 1830 and he was the one who made small card that had Christmas and festive moods on it and the greeting written inside. In America similar cards were manufactured by R H Pease in Albany New York and Louis Prang a German immigrant. The sending each other the cards gained momentum ten years later when the new postal system was developed.
7) The Greek word “Xristos” which means Christ shortened the Christmas to Xmas in 1500 and was made popular in Europe.
The candy canes were always manufactured in white color this is according to the National Confectioners Association.
9) The day after the Christmas day is known as Boxing day in England and it is declared a holiday. There are many stories which gives reference to the Boxing day. One story goes that the boys who would go to collect the money in clay boxes. The other one says the Churches used to open their Alms Boxes and distribute the money to the needy people. Alms Boxes are the boxes where people put donations or gifts into the box. The other one goes like the masters used to give the servants gift on the next day of Christmas.
10) Evergreen trees are believed to ward off all the evils, withces and illness so the people in the earlier times used to hang the branches of the trees on their door and windows. In winter they were reminders of the Sun god which will bring the green in the trees after the winter.
11) The ancient people worshipped the sun god and thought that the God has fallen ill and therefore there is so much cold during the winter months. The worship was supposed to get the sun god in good health again and regain the strength.
12) The business was conducted on the Christmas day by Legislators and the first one was conducted in 1789. This was due to the congress was not popular for taking part in American Revolution. The Christmas celebration was barred by the Boston and it became very expensive to celebrate the event.
